  • Traditional: Bates House and South Tower.
  • Suites: Capstone, Columbia Hall, Honors Residence, Maxcy, Patterson, Preston Residential College, Thornwell, Women's Quad (women only) and Campus Village Buildings 2 to 4.

Several halls hold a living-learning community:

How do freshman housing applications work at the University of South Carolina?

Freshman housing applications at the University of South Carolina work in five steps: pay the enrollment deposit, apply and pay the $100 fee early, match a roommate, mind the May 1 cancel date, and pick a room in early June. These are the 2026-27 dates from University Housing's first-year page. The 2027-28 dates were not posted as of October 2026.

  1. Pay the $200 enrollment deposit. The housing application opens to your student 48 to 72 hours later, per the housing FAQ. In 2026 the application opened January 15.
  2. Apply and pay the $100 fee early. Priority goes by the date your student applies and pays. University Housing guarantees every first-year a room either way.
  3. Match a roommate. Matching opened March 13 and closed May 18.
  4. Keep May 1 in mind. It is the last day to cancel without a penalty. May 5 is the last day to apply and still pick a room.
  5. Pick the room in early June. Students outside a living-learning community choose their own room then. Community students are placed in late May. Move-in is mid-August.
