Which Auburn dorms do freshmen live in?
Auburn freshmen live in dorms across five University Housing communities: the Hill, the Quad, the Village, South Donahue and Concourse Hall. The halls below are the ones each community's page lists for first-year students, read in October 2026 (University Housing communities).
- The Hill. Boyd and Sasnett, about 420 beds, both listed for first-years. Rooms come as suites of two double rooms joined by a bathroom.
- The Quad. Ten historic halls in the center of campus. Dowdell, Glenn, Lane, Little, Lupton and Teague are listed for first-years, Harper for first-years and a learning community, and Broun for honors students. Keller and Owen are offline for 2026-27. Suites match the Hill's.
- The Village. Eight halls, about 1,500 students. Most suites have four single bedrooms, two bathrooms and a shared living area. Aubie, Matthews, Talon and Holloway house first-years, including learning-community and honors students.
- South Donahue Hall. About 500 first-years and upperclassmen. Most suites have two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, plus a kitchenette and a washer and dryer.
- Concourse Hall. New in fall 2026, 371 beds, listed for first-years in 2027-28. Two double rooms share each suite's bathroom.
Three more Village halls, Magnolia, Oak and Leischuck, house sorority members. The three apartment buildings University Housing master-leases, 160 Ross, 191 College and The Union, also list first-years among their residents.

How do Auburn freshmen get a dorm room?
Auburn freshmen get a dorm room by applying in an assigned timeslot, then picking a bed online in April. The fall 2027 steps below are from University Housing's new-applicant page, updated September 25, 2026:
- Watch for the timeslot email. Housing assigns timeslots by lottery after each admissions round and emails them to the student's Auburn account: late October for Early Action 1, then early December, early January, late February, and late March for Regular 1. The application opens November 4, 2026.
- Apply and pay the $100 fee. It is nonrefundable, and the admissions deposit is not needed yet. The application also asks your student to rank housing areas, a ranking Housing uses only if it has to assign a room by hand.
- Name a roommate, or skip it. Mutually requested roommates can pick beds together. An optional matching questionnaire helps students who have no one in mind.
- Pay the $250 enrollment deposit before room selection. Access can take up to three business days.
- Pick a bed between April 1 and 23, 2027, in the selection timeslot Housing emails on March 24. Apply by April 21 to take part.
- Pay the $200 prepayment by May 1, 2027, which is also the cancellation deadline. Manual assignments start May 6.
Students who need a disability accommodation should send documentation to the Office of Accessibility by March 19, 2027. Our guide for admitted students covers the deposit and Camp War Eagle.
Is freshman housing guaranteed at Auburn?
No, freshman housing is not guaranteed at Auburn. University Housing says "Housing is not guaranteed to all freshmen as Auburn University does not have a live on requirement," and "we routinely have a standby list." In fall 2025, 59% of first-years lived in university housing and 41% lived off campus or commuted, per the 2025-26 Common Data Set.
Apply as soon as your student's timeslot opens. An application after April 21, 2027 misses room selection entirely, and University Housing tells new students to apply early because of the standby list.
Riley, our Auburn Campus Lead, skipped the dorm herself. "We don't have to live on campus freshman year, so I was like a dorm sounds not fun, but everyone else enjoyed it," she told us in October 2026. Asked whether students want the sorority halls in the Village, she said, "Yeah, a lot of people did."

Can you tour an Auburn dorm before choosing?
Yes, you can tour an Auburn dorm before choosing, on a 30-minute University Housing tour booked ahead, Monday to Friday. Each tour has its own start time and lobby, per the housing tours page, as of October 2026:
- South Donahue Hall: 10 a.m., in the South Donahue lobby.
- The Union: 11 a.m., in its lobby.
- The Quad: noon, in the Broun Hall lobby.
- The Village: 1 p.m., in the Aubie Hall lobby.

Fall 2026 tours end December 4, and none run on university holidays, during finals week or over breaks. 160 Ross and 191 College offer no tours, and the Hill has no slot on the list. Arrive on time: guests more than 10 minutes late may get a shorter tour. Virtual tours and floor plans are on the same page.
From Toomer's Drugs, Broun Hall is about a 9-minute walk and Aubie Hall about 15 minutes, by our OpenStreetMap measurement in October 2026.
For campus and the neighborhoods upperclassmen rent in, a private tour of Auburn is $150 for your family, 60 to 90 minutes, with a current student. TourCollegeTowns is independent and not affiliated with Auburn University.
